The original production of Orpheus and Euridice was presented by Lincoln Center Great Performers and American Songbook, New Visions in October 2005 and was awarded a 2006 OBIE Special Citation.
Doug Varone's production of Ricky Ian Gordon's Orpheus and Euridice can be hosted by a variety of producers from presenters to opera companies. The project premiered in 2005 for Lincoln Center's Great Performers & American Songbook series and remounted at Longleaf Opera in Chapel Hill in July 2008. The original cast of musicians Elizabeth Futral, soprano, Todd Palmer, Clarinet, Melvin Chen, piano has expressed interest in continuing to perform the song cycle as originally produced. The work can also be produced with a different cast of musicians. This production can only be performed with the dancers of Doug Varone and Dancers.
RUNNING TIME: 70 minutes
The piece can stand alone or be paired with repertory by Doug Varone and Dancers or recital work by the musicians.
