The Juilliard School | New York City
January 6-10, 2025
For pre-professional and professional dancers, our DOVA Winter Intensive offers five days of classes that include technical training, creative work, and exposure to the company’s style.
Our annual Winter Intensive weaves together all of the essentials that create the world we’ve built at DOVA. We are constantly looking to reimagine how we share what we value in our work and process and this year we are streamlining our workshop to five intense days at the beautiful studios at The Juilliard School. In addition to our daily technique and improv classes, I’ll be creating an event with the entire workshop, mixing new material with existing selections from the DOVA repertory. We’re excited to dialogue with each of you as individuals and craft a work that will celebrate the community we’ll build together. I hope you’ll join us in NYC in January!

Modern Technique | 10:00-12:00
This highly technical, movement-based class investigates the line of human movement and how it can affect the broader strokes of our dancing. Through the expansive use of the back and limbs, Varone’s style will be explored through an emphasis on breath, strength, dynamic lyricism and musicality.
Repertory | 12:15-1:15
This class will spend short intense spans of time exploring excerpts (i.e. solo, duets, etc.) from a variety of pieces, offering an overview of Varone's work. Through this investigation, the class will experience the wide range of movement dynamics, emotional nuance and spatial architecture inherent in Varone's choreography.
New Work with Doug Varone | 2:15-4:00
Varone will emphasize compositional structure and explore choreographic devices for inventing material as well as reorganizing existing repertory to build a new work.
